Saturday, September 30th, we'll be at Sparklefest! at the Pour House.

Then some more stuff. But we'll get to that later.

Bobby's Irving Plaza recap - and important info about our gig in Trenton on Oct 7th
Thurs. nite - played @ Irving Plaza w/ The Zombies, Woggles, Fleshtones and The Mooney Suzuki. It was a great night - all the bands rocked.
Pre-soundcheck

Then I met up w/ Rob Woj of the Insomniacs - and we ended up running into Dan - the drummer of the Woggles - and ended up hanging out on their tour bus (that they shared w/ the Zombies).
Here's the Woggles during Soundcheck.

And here's a pic of us doing our soundcheck.

Wow - I forgot how wonderful the sound is on a real stage. It's tremendous. It was so great to not have to wear earplugs onstage to help hear one's self singing . the vocal mix and monitor mix onstage was great.
Hey look - it's Mikey Erg and Erin Hays!

Go-go dancers! (60s style - not strippers)

Then Ken Dashow from Q104.3 emcee'd the evening gave us our introduction... and...
We're ON!

Bring on the go-go girls!

And then The Mooney Suzuki - who rocked!!!

Ken Dashow of Q104.3 and Little Steven

The Zombies (Rod Argent was obscured by overhead PA gear)

Now playing: The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

Lets not forget that Pete and I are playing in Carlstadt on 10/20/06.
And we'll be performing a live acoustic set on WTSR Trenton Radio on 10/4 sometime between 7:30 and 9:00. That may or may not include Bobby, who may be involved pinging nodes and deploying packets and such things involved with maintaining VOIP.
And through the use of special magical abilities procured through many years of worshipping vaccuum tubes, we'll be playing a full live electric set on Princeton's WPRB on 10/4 sometime between 7:00 and 10:00.
Now, on to the task of taming the dopplegangers.

I went to a seminar today at Rutgers. Inane talking was really getting to me. It was then that I (re)realized that its not that I really dislike people or social situations so much as I dislike the asinine chatter that seems to go along with it. I think I've noticed that before, but today was remarkably obvious. Even worse than informal social chatter is business chatter. Ugh. Dripping with layers of gooey fakeness.
During breaks I noticed how many of the people walking around campus were on their cell phones. Who are all these college kids calling at 10am? And of course, I always notice when idiots are yapping on their phones when they're driving. Or in WaWa, Target, the beach, the park, EVERYWHERE. Not just one or two people, but a lot.
So, someone let me in on a little secret. Who the **** are you talking to? And what the **** are you talking about? Why is everyone always talking? What could you possibly me talking about? What is the point of all this ridiculous noise?
I wonder what percentage of it is a complete waste of calories, energy, and time. Maybe 98%? How many of you people are the ones who just talk to hear yourself, and not the other person? Just waiting for a pause to stick in your own words. You don't even listen to what the other person is saying. Its comical. I've heard people have two independent converstations while thinking they're talking to the other person.
And most of the stuff you say, you don't even mean. Say one thing, do another. Make up stories. Slander other people. Lie.
Are we really so bored with everything that we have to constantly feed all of our senses with cell phones and stereos and big screen tvs and ridiculous amount of increasingly disturbing perversity and disgusting violence; superbacon cheeseburgers, razors, and 50" plasmas? ....is that all that does it for us anymore?
Can we all be a little more distracted? Please? <---- sarcasm
I'd really appreciate it if everyone would just stop and listen every once in awhile. Jeez.

Folk'ing around in Hoboken
Last night we played an acoustic show at the Goldhawk in Hoboken - part of the "Folk You" concert series being sponsored by Jersey Beat and Blowupradio.com. We rocked a 1/2 hour set spanning our discography - from Coloursound we dusted off "Mind Meld Mud" - from the new record - we did re-worked versions of "the Next One" and "Friday's Girl" and by request "Partridge" - which came out really well - considering we didn't rehearse it. We did some new (ie - songs from the next record) songs - like "Hazel Eyes" and the Jimmy Charles song "Hourglass". It was a fun time. Thanks to all who attended.
So - today I'm at work and I'm listening to Jimi Hendrix @ the BBC.
One word: Phenomenal.
Please don't forget to get your tickets to the Zombies gig @ Irving Plaza - it's probably going to sell out.
While I'm reminding our readers of stuff - don't stop requesting The Anderson Council on Sirius' Underground Garage program - and your local FM radio stations. If they don't have it - please email us at info at theandersoncouncil dot com.

Coincidence
On 8/31 I went to the doctor to go on prescription drugs to help me QUIT smoking.
I had quit smoking in 1998 - and foolishly picked up a cigarette after I had joined the band in 2000. We went down to Tennessee to play an outdoor festival and cigarettes were cheaper than candy down there. How I regret that decision. Anyway - I will be starting my effort to quit smoking the monday after we play @ Irving Plaza. So - wish me luck.
-----
On a separate note - make sure your ass at The Goldhawk in Hoboken Wed. nite to catch our first acoustic show since... hell - it's been so long - I couldn't tell ya. Be there - with bells on.

I was just reminded that Friday, the 1st of September, was 2 years without a cigarette. Very few of my friends who knew me when I smoked would have ever thought that I would have made it this long. In fact, I believe that most non-performance Anderson Council pictures taken pre-2004 probably have me holding a cigarette.
Thats not to say that I have anything against smokers. I know just how good those smokes can be. Sunday morning with a big cup of freshly brewed coffee. Right after a big meal. Stuck in traffic. I used to chain smoke when writing songs, recording, or especially mixing down. The fun ended when my doctor told me that he thought I had skin cancer on my lip - right where I put my cigarette. I had a little 'thing' there just beneath the skin. It turned out to be nothing - some sort of irritation, but the reality of having part of your face removed because of smoking seemed ludicrous. And dying because of smoking? Because of an inability to control my own compulsions? That was not an acceptable way to go for me. SO, after almost 20 years of smoking, I had to quit.
I still have dreams about having a cigarette. All the time. I've had to develop a whole new way of dealing with my compulsions, and its carried over into the rest of my life. So its been a positive thing. But I'm still hooked. I remember hearing about 'addiction' in health class in middle school and high school, but you never really know what it is until you're addicted to something.
What a crazy drug.

from "The Nightfly", the guy that brought us "happy mouth", we have a swell review of our new record:
Musical Monday - album review
Today's Musical Monday is an album review "The Fall Parade", by the Anderson Council.
The Fall Parade is the Anderson Council's first full album, or their second, or their fourth overall release, depending on who's doing the counting. They say "two", so we'll go with that; but "Coloursound" is out of print so if you want to
start your collection, this is the place, and it's a good place to begin.
With the first track, "Beautiful", two things stand out at once - the retro sound (think 60's pop crossed with a little new wave) and the working-class English inflection to Peter Horvath's vocals. The band claims that the songs just sound better that way - they're actually from New Jersey: Horvath (lead vocals, guitars, and keyboard), Jimmy Charles (guitars and keyboard), Robert Farrell (bass), and Joe Chyb (drums). Given the style of the music they may have a point, though the Anglicized spellings may strike you as a little affected, and a whole album'
s worth of twanging gives moments where you wish they'd sing it straight.
That feeling comes and goes, however. What stands out after repeat listening is that the Anderson Council has a taste for a good hook: the circular guitar lines on "Partridge", the excellent backup vocals and harmonies, and the trumpet on "Pretty People" (handled by guest musician Spiff Wiegand). Even the handclaps in "Meghan Allison" are spot-on. It's also fun to trace the influences in the sound, even when the lyrics aren't dropping obvious nods such as in "Pinkerton's Assorted Colours" and "What Do You Know". For example, the opening of "Mind Elevator" carries a whiff of the Stones, and the harmonies on "Partridge" make it sound like a lost Joe Jackson song.
Highlights are everywhere. "Meghan Allison", "Archie's Theme", "Pinkerton's" and "Strawberry Smell" are great, bouncy pop songs, and the band just sounds like they had fun laying down the tracks - they don't suffer from overproduction or excessive sweetening. You also get a sense of depth in the sound without it being overly intricate. The only real disappointment if you're a fan is the absence of "Night and Day", an excellent song from "the Debt EP" that didn't get into the lineup. (Next time, guys.) There are only a few moments (such as "Partridge") where they demonstrate a slower sound, so hopefully there will be some of that variety in the next.
